The basis was our design for the interior of the Maestro new-build complex, designed by KOW, where we furnished, among other things, the restaurant, the living rooms, and the individual homes. From this first project for Saffier, we received the assignment for the Visual Quality Plan. Based on this, we have already partially tackled a number of locations - including the Loosduinen residential care park, Huize Royal and Swaenesteyn -, for example, renovating the restaurant, meeting rooms or corridors; from limited budgets, we can thus make the living environment a little better step by step.
The Visual Quality Plan for Sapphire is based on the principles of a healing environment; at the heart of this is a stress-relieving interior that offers peace and clarity. In addition, it is also important that this balance is alternated with places with a more specific look and feel. That is why a calm, warm and natural Baseline was chosen for the continuous color and material palette — and especially for those parts that should last a long time; this not only provides a calm basis but is also more sustainable. In addition to the Baseline, there are Counterpoints, spaces and places where a special atmosphere is sought. Counterpoints are designed with contemporary, sometimes striking and sometimes subdued accents, which are mainly used on walls and accessories. In this way, these counterpoints are also easier to adjust - a quick effect to give the timeless baseline a timeless atmosphere again.

Within the Visual Quality Plan, Maison Gaspard de Colligny is the project where we have done the most large-scale interventions, with the approach to the entrance area, the meeting rooms, the reception and the restaurant. Because the target group consists of old, sometimes sick people, we always have to find the balance between healthcare demand on the one hand and atmosphere on the other, something we try to solve in the design as much as possible: for example, we set up the restaurants like a Grand Café, choosing beautiful, suitable materials that are easy to keep clean and can take a beating at the same time.
In addition, there is also space for their own furniture and belongings, so that people feel at home more quickly. This is not only an aesthetic but also a medical choice: for some residents, for example those with dementia, their own belongings provide peace of mind — because they are recognisable and familiar. In doing so, the own furniture is not only used in private living areas but also in public areas, in order to give them more character.

This welcoming atmosphere is not only aimed at residents, but also with a view to the neighborhood function that Sapphire sees for its buildings. That is why we are extra proud of the total order for Zeevonk, a new residential building on the Rusthoekstraat in Scheveningen. Zeevonk should become a place where people from inside and outside can meet each other, with a restaurant, a gym, a rehabilitation center, a physiotherapist, areas for activities, a hairdresser and a shared garden — and with children's reading afternoons, creative workshops and neighborhood festivals. This is how we want to make Zeevonk a vibrant place for everyone - residents and neighbours.
Interior design with a neutral basis for the parts that should last, and only contemporary interventions in areas that are easy to adapt, guarantees future-proofing, flexibility and sustainability. In addition, we also focus on demountable, modular interior parts, quality furniture with a long lifespan, and on the reuse of our own furniture. And in the case of new buildings, we naturally opt for a package of energy-saving measures that ensure that this elderly housing is ready for the future.
